I’ve been to the most marvelous party. Our hostess entered in a tight, blue-sequined gown slit up to here, and down to there, bewigged for days, and looking decades younger than her self-admitted 70 years.

The ex-Supreme, sounding better than ever, went through the groups 12 number one hits in addition to (smartly) pacing the evening with several ballads, including “Here’s to Life” and “Body and Soul.” A warm, vibrant personality, she peppered her patter with self-deprecating remarks and I kept thinking, “Wouldn’t she make a terrific Mame?” She’s clever, smart, sly, very funny and a helluva singer. No more “ooo ooo, baby, baby’s” for her…

now it’s Mary’s turn!From Dreamgirls’s “I Am Changing” to “Someday We’ll Be Together” to her finale, blowing the roof off the gorgeous Royal Room with “Last Dance,” she had her capacity audience on their feet, screaming and dancing like we did in the (old) Studio 54 Ably abetted by backup singers Lucy Shropshire and Parnell Marcano, and a quartet led by Mark Zier, Wilson was unforgettable. What a star!
