Comstock-Fasano-Power-of-10-Cabaret-Scenes-Magazine_212Today’s best husband-and-wife musical team, Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano, celebrated their 10th anniversary by performing a delightful collection of love songs, perfect for a summer afternoon in New York. Warren Vaché on trumpet added a light jazzy tone to most of the numbers. Comstock and Fasano are both accomplished vocalists, but, when working together, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Their voices blend beautifully and their verbal interplay is both loving and amusing.

Their jazzy duet of “How About You?,” with updated lyrics, set the stage for the afternoon love fest. The back and forth of Comstock’s “Comes Once in a Lifetime” and Fasano’s “ Lucky to Be Me” combined seamlessly. Comstock did a haunting solo, “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes.” Fasano’s “A Kiss to Build a Dream On” was backed by Vaché echoing Louis Armstrong. She paid homage to Lena Horne with a lilting “Surrey with the Fringe on Top.” Together at the piano, the couple lovingly performed “Two for the Road.” They closed with “Haven’t We Met,” followed by the very funny encore number by another musical couple —John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey—“I Wouldn’t Trade You.”
