If you’re looking for a great voice in the cabaret world, there is none better than that of Christine Andreas. Her beautiful soprano, impressive range, power, and impeccable phrasing put her at the very top of the list.
In addition, after having starred as Eliza in My Fair Lady and other Broadway shows, her acting ability is on display in each of her numbers. She has a sparkling personality that lights up any room that she is in and her patter is filled with amusing anecdotes from her more than 40-year career. Guest star Italian tenor Marco Romano’s thrilling sound blended marvelously with Andreas in their duets. Husband Martin Silvestri is her musical director and accompanist and their long-time relationship ensures that they are always in sync.

After remarking that the news of the day makes her feel unromantic, she said that she would attempt to put us in a romantic mood and succeeded with her opening number “He Loves Me.” She reminisced about her experience having to perform “Falling in Love with Love” for George Abbott’s 90th birthday celebration at the very start of her Broadway career and followed with a delightful “My Romance.” She changed the mood with a dramatic “Here’s That Rainy Day,” which featured a wonderful piano solo by Silvestri. Her very funny side was on display with her performance of “To Keep My Love Alive,” in which she hilariously acted out each of the murders in the song. A moving story about her special-needs son was followed by “Somebody Special,” written by Silvestri and Joel Higgins.
She started singing “Some Enchanted Evening” from the back of the audience as Romano stood on stage singing “Younger than Springtime.” They came together on stage to make beautiful music together to conclude the medley. She softly performed the title song, Billy Joel’s “And So It Goes,” leading into an ultra-dramatic “Take Care of This House.” The closing medley had her beginning with “What a Wonderful World” then building to a thrilling climax with “If I Ruled the World” and then fading away with a few bars of “What a Wonderful World.” In the encore to this vastly entertaining 80-minute show, their wonderful soprano and tenor voices combed for a memorable performance of “The Prayer.”
