The evening was everything such a tribute should be—highly personal with a tight focus, a mix of emotions and humor, and a varied song list.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Abernathy’s beautiful resonant tenor; its warm timbre added luster to each of his offerings.
A master class in cabaret performance.
Keating once more proved himself an expert storyteller in both narration and song.
The show, under the deft direction of Lennie Watts, was campy and heartbreaking, absurd and very romantic, witty and very serious.
His talent was obvious, as was his warmth, but overall the show was a mixed bag.
