Joe Sirola has had a long career in the entertainment industry as an actor on Broadway (Golden Rainbow; The Unsinkable Molly Brown) and Off Broadway, on television (over 660 shows such as Get Smart, Mission: Impossible, Rhoda, Hawaii Five-O), in the movies (Strange Bedfellows with Rock Hudson and Gina Lollobrigida; Hang ’em High with Clint Eastwood; The Greatest Story Ever Told; Super Cops, Hail to the Chief; Love Is a Gun) and, most notably, as “The King of Voice-Overs,” with over 10,000 to his credit. Johnny Carson once said Joe was the most listened-to voice in America. His rich, deep, resonant and distinctive voice has been much in demand and can be heard in ads for top, nationally recognized products like Wendy’s, Boar’s Head, Mobil, GE, NyQuil, Vicks Formula 44, Club Med, Hertz and Ford. His work has won him 25 Clio Awards, the international TV commercial awards. He has also been a producer on many Broadway shows, most notably: A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (Tony Award for Best Musical); Love Letters (Revival); The Trip to Bountiful; Ghetto Klown; Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella; Stick Fly; Time Stands Still; and the musical Cagney.
On Monday, August 15, 2016, Bernie Furshpan hosted a tribute to Joe as part of the Metropolitan Room’s This Is Your Night! series. On hand to toast Joe in song were Jamie deRoy, Shana Farr, Gregory Korostishevsky, Lee Pfeiffer, Steve Ross, Eric Rudy, KT Sullivan and Jon Weber. Cheering Joe on were his many friends in the entertainment industry, as well has his partner, Claire Gozzo, and his granddaughters.
