What can one say about Kaylee MacKnight’s voice? She’s got it all: range, volume, and depth. With just how big this tiny girl’s voice is, I expect that she could handle a Broadway-size venue without a mic.

But, for now, she calmly took care of her faithful at The Duplex.

She can shake the walls without puncturing your ear drums, and have some fun, too, by accepting drinks from the audience—something which she also does in her trademark show, Drunk Musicals.

MacKnight got some help from a bevy of impressive guests, which started with pianist Michael Ferrara, viola player Andrew Griffin, and clarinetist Kellon Anderson, as well as her wonderfully confident roommate, Reilly, on the cajon.

MacKnight truly shined alongside Nat Zegree (from Million Dollar Quartet) for a solid duet of “Tie Me Up” from Sam Carner and Derek Gregor’s Island Song, and alongside Anthony Lee Medina (from Hamilton) for an even better duet of “What You Mean to Me” from Finding Neverland.

Reilly, as pianist and vocalist, shared a powerfully painful “Try Again,” inspired by the bubbly and positive MacKnight.

The verses hit a comfortable spot, but the real strength of the song showed in its chorus where it felt like time stood still when this blonde in a black dress whispered, “Escaping has a limit before the damage makes you feel,” while digging her long, slender fingers into the white keys.

If she can get down some strategies to memorize her songs, like when she dominated “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” from Phantom, she’ll be hard to say no to.
