Metropolitan Room

The World’s Longest Variety Show

January 1-4, 2015

34 West 22nd St. (Between 5th & 6th Aves.)
New York, NY 10010

Metropolitan-Room-Marathon-Cabaret-SCenes-Magazine_212Bernie Furshpan, the enterprising managing partner of New York’ Citys Metropolitan Room, has his sights set on hitting a world’s record at the cabaret club. The club in Chelsea will begin a non-stop 60-hour entertainment marathon at 7:00 PM on January 1st that, when it finishes on January 4th, will win it the Guinness title as “the World’s Longest Variety Show.”

Furshpan tells us he already has received over 250 requests from performers wanting to participate, and equally eager requests for reservations from audience members shouldn’t be far behind. Everyone who sees any portion of the show will be part of the world’s record achievement and have their names inscribed and permanently on display at the club. Audiences early Friday and Saturday mornings will be offered free breakfast and endless coffee.

Furshpan revealed to us over fifty performers already scheduled to appear. To name a few: KT Sullivan, Tony Danza, Bill Boggs, Judy Gold, Baby Jane Dexter, Steve Ross, Anna Bergman, Jeff Harner, Luba Mason, Lina Koutrakos, Richard Pryor, Jr., Jamie deRoy, Ricky Ritzel—and that’s just a sampling.

Audiences will have a choice of a single “arrive when you please and stay as long as you like” ticket or a “Cabaret Aficionado Special” for repetitive visits “as often you please” during the four days the marathon will run.
