Streaming from their living room, Trisha Ditsworth and Matravius “Tre” Avent, presented a good, old-fashioned Great American Songbook cabaret show, aptly titled Timeless. Having to resort to tracks which varied in quality, but the song choices were delicious. “I’m Beginning to See the Light” kicked off the set as a duet, and then Ditsworth debuted her version of the Nat King Cole classic, “Orange Colored Sky.”  Avent rejoined her for “It Had to Be You.” Since they are married, social distancing was not an issue, and they joked and played between songs.

Each took a turn sharing what they had been up to during the pandemic. Both are out-of-work professionals usually seen on the stages of Arizona Broadway Theater and Phoenix Theatre Company. Ditsworth has been busy finishing 23 paintings, one of which was offered as a virtual door prize. She has also been teaching on Zoom and has been a featured singer in Seth Tucker’s Garage Cabarets. Avent is learning Japanese and on a quest to adopt a dog; apparently, there is a puppy shortage in Arizona.

The show peaked with Avent’s “Tomorrow Tonight” (originally recorded by Leslie Odom, Jr.

) and Ditsworth’s rendition of “Cry Me a River.

” Avent paid tribute to Nat King Cole with “On the Street Where You Live,” which is not a song I think of when I think of Cole’s biggest hits. Its effectiveness was somewhat lessened by a fan who posted a dancing dog in the comment section, which drew attention away from Avent’s effort.

The duo closed out the evening with a short medley of two classics, “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” and “The Way You Look Tonight.”  All in all, it was a charming show; perfect for a Friday night 6:00 p.m. happy hour. The event was produced by BrockPro Entertainment and streamed on Facebook.
