Adrienne Haan

International chanteuse Adrienne Haan strode on stage to the cheers of a packed house, many of whom were clearly fans. Her sexy outfit—top hat, short-shorts-body suit and waistcoat—was the perfect complement to her opening numbers, “Cabaret” and “Theme from New York, New York” (both John Kander/Fred Ebb). Haan presented a lively, polished program, reveling in her repertory of songs in French, Italian, German, English, Spanish, and Yiddish. Her exuberant charm and personal charisma immediately drew us in as she wowed us with her beautiful sound and interpretative ability. “La Vie en rose” (Edith Piaf/Louiguy/Maraguerite Monnot) showcased her classical vocal training (she studied at Juilliard) and rich upper register. Her powerful presentation of “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” (Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice) was truly an audience pleaser, as was the charming song from the show Mary Poppins, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” (Richard Sherman/Robert Sherman), which she enjoyed performing in German. The talented Australian vocalist Darren Williams joined her for the second part of the program, jokingly singing falsetto in “The Drinking Song” or “Brindisi,” from La Traviata (Giuseppe Verdi). He also joined Haan in a beautiful rendition of “The Prayer” (David Foster/Carol Bayer Sager) and in the final song of the evening, “Time to Say Goodbye” or “Con te Partiro” (Francesco Sartori/Lucio Quarantotto).

Adrienne Haan will next appear with Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks at Joe’s Pub on October 17 in a tribute to Berlin’s Golden Age.
