As part of its Musical Mondays series, The Chicago Cabaret Professionals bring The British Are Coming to Broadway to the Victory Gardens Theater. Cast members include Anne Burnell, Mark Burnell, John Eskola, Hilary Ann Feldman, Scott Gryder, KT McCammond, Suzanne Petri, and Cheryl Szucsits. Daryl Nitz directs with musical direction by Mark Burnell.

Saturdays in March at Davenport’s bring Joan Curto Sings Sondheim—Everybody Says Don’t with musical direction by Beckie Menzie. March 1 features Chris Johnson in Work in Progress with Ellen Morris on piano and Aaron Kaplan on cello. Acts of Kindness Cabaret celebrates its 10th anniversary with Silver Linings Songbook featuring Hilary Ann Feldman, Caryn Cafarelli and Marianne Murphy Orland. Jamie Brady appears in Something to Talk About 3/5 with Beckie Menzie providing musical direction and Mitch Lavin on guitar. Simplistic Soul appears on March 6 in Simplistic Soul Meets the 27 Club. Judy Rossignuolo-Rice and Denise McGowan Tracy reprise When Harry Met Irving—The Music of Harold Arlen and Irving Berlin 3/8. Anna Fermin appears 3/12 with guitarist Tony Richards and special guests. Anslee Burns, Casi Maggio and Eliza Morris appear 3/3 and 4/7 in Silver Screen—Let’s Go to the Movies. Elizabeth Morgan brings She’s Folk 3/30. Janene Bergen and singer/pianist Ryan Eikmeier salute Sondheim in Treble in a Red Dress 3/15 & 22. Beckie Menzie and Tom Michael present It’s About Time Saturdays in April. Ruth Feurst’s debut solo show, Wake Up and Dream, graces Davenport’s 4/10 & 17 with musical direction provided by Bob Moreen. Anna Besserud presents Who Wrote the Book of Love? 4/2 & 19 with Beckie Menzie at the keyboard.

It’s Daryl Nitz and George Howe in Primetime Experience at the Skokie Theatre 3/7. Kevin Wood encores Sentimental Journeys—A Cabaret Travelogue 3/12. Celebrating a milestone birthday, Cabaret Sceness own Carla Gordon offers Broad Strokes at the Skokie 3/14 with special guests Caryn Bark, Russell Goeltenbodt and Jan Slavin with musical direction by Bob Moreen. Daryl Nitz and ensemble perform Here’s to the Lady: Elaine Stritch at Ninety 3/20. Chanteuse Julie Butler entertains with Songs and Stories of Tin Pan Alley 3/25 and in Women of Broadway 4/8. Lisa Rock is there 4/10 with Close to You—The Music of the Carpenters featuring Amy Malouf with musical direction by Ken McMullen. Russ Goeltnbodt returns to the Skokie in Your Goy Friend’s Back directed by Carla Gordon with musical direction by Bob Moreen 4/11.

At the Des Plaines Library, you’ll find Laura Freeman, Beckie Menzie and Marianne Murphy Orland in Girls Like Us 4/26. You can enjoy a taste of Chicago style jazz with the Elaine Dame Quartet at The Rainbow Room in New York City 3/8. The busy jazz stylist appears 3/6 & 20 with her duo at The 720 Lounge at The Conrad Hilton on South Michigan. March 27 & 4/24 they are at Southport and Irving and 3/29 & 4/12 find them at Taverna 750. Hilary Ann Feldman brings My Fair Audrey: A Tribute to Audrey Hepburn to the Prospect Heights Library 3/17 and to the Dreihaus Museum 4/17. John Michael Coppola presents A Jersey Voice—Sinatra to Springsteen and Everyone in Between at the Metropolis Theater in Arlington Heights 3/15 where he will be joined by The Four C Notes. Marianne Murphy Orland stars in If I Were a Carpenter: The Life and Music of Karen Carpenter with Musical Director George Howe and Michael B. Favreau at the Madden Theatre of North Central College in Naperville 3/8. Cheryl Szucsitz takes Cross Over to the Cabaret Side to New York’s Metropolitan Room 3/29 with a special appearance by Scott Gryder and musical direction by Nick Sula. Wayne Richards entertains the crowds at Big Shot in Arlington Heights Tuesdays through Saturdays during March and April.

Carla Gordon

Carla Gordon is a singer/songwriter, director, and producer. The Chicago Tribune cited her among “Chicago’s most accomplished cabaret performers….a major player in Chicago cabaret.” Reviewer Pam Peterson called her “Honey-voiced wisecracker!” Ageless Magazine called her performance as Sophie tucker, “A gem!” Gordon writes custom material for singers nationwide. Her flagship show, "Blacklisted," featuring songs made famous by artists blacklisted under McCarthyism, has toured to critical acclaim. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Cabaret Professionals and on the Advisory Board of the Skokie Theater. Her songs air on WFMT’s Midnight Special and are being performed performed by cabaret artists nationwide. carlacabaret@aol.com
