Mary Cleere Haran

SingsDoris Day

Feisntein's at Loews Regency
New York, NY
Doris Day was the subject, as her career and songs were brought warmly to life by Mary Cleere Haran, at Feinstein's at Loew's Regency, in October. With an informed perspective – Mary had written and produced a documentary about the long-reclusive Day – she interwove the story of Day's life with songs identified with her band, recording and film work. Mary Cleere was in fine form: glowing, glamorous, humorous, digging into the essence of the songs, and, with her skill in connecting with her audience, often revealing as much about herself as she did about Day. Numbers ranged from those that Day sang with the Bob Crosby and Les Brown bands to her famous movie numbers, such as "Que Sera Sera" and "Love Me Or Leave Me." Strong musical backup was provided by Don Rebic as music director and pianist, Chip Jackson on bass and Jim Hirschman on guitar.
