Merriment and music shared the Birdland stage in equal measure on a Monday night in November, as Amanda Green and her musical guests packed the club for and evening of (mainly) her songs what she humbly labeled Amanda Green’s Amazing Colossal Sh*t Sheaux! (The exclamation point is hers.

Green herself led the parade singing a lovely “There’s a Chance,” followed by an upbeat and funny “40-11.” The guest spots began with Kelli Barrett and Jarrod Spector in a sweet duo of “I’m Gone,” featuring warm harmonies, after which Spector went solo with “Check It Out.

Barrett returned with “Only Pretend,” which was written for a later staging of Peter Pan by the show’s original songwriters, Jule Styne/Betty Comden and Adolph Green (Amanda’s famed father), with additional new lyrics by Amanda herself.

Peter Pan was represented again by, “Vengeance,” performed in leering elegance by Green as Captain Hook—complete with hook. Versatile Amanda returned with the bluesy ballad, “Till You Come Back to Me,” followed by guest Howard McGillin performing “Because of Her.

” Another guest, Norm Lewis, joined the festivities to perform a strong “The Tryers.

” The show closed with “Big Dogs” from Hands on a Hardbody (Trey Anastasio/Green).

A song list originally prepared for the evening’s tech director indicated that this final number was to have a “big end w/ flashy lights.” That’s how the evening finished—complete with a club full of delighted, enthusiastically applauding customers.
