Bill-Charlap-Carole-Sloane-Cabaret-Scenes-Magazine_212“Bill Charlap is often described as the epitome of mainstream pianists, in the tradition of iconic players from Art Tatum to Ahmad Jamal. But the term ‘mainstream’ becomes meaningless when one considers Charlap’s technical mastery, his subtlety and his unflagging melodic invention—or should we say, re-invention.” — Downbeat

“…Carol Sloane, a superb and underappreciated performer who has been plowing along steadily for more than three decades, projects the sort of serene musical overview and common sense that many better-known singers struggle for a lifetime to attain without ever finding.” —  The New York Times

One of the world’s premier jazz pianists, Bill Charlap has performed and recorded with many leading artists of our time, ranging from jazz masters Phil Woods and Wynton Marsalis to singers Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand. Since 1997, he has led the Bill Charlap Trio with bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington, now recognized as one of the leading groups in jazz. For the past 12 years, Charlap has been the artistic director of 92Y’s Jazz in July Festival in NYC. He has also produced concerts for Jazz at Lincoln Center, the JVC Jazz Festival and the Hollywood Bowl. Tony Bennett and Bill Charlap are the recipients of a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop album for their 2015 release, The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern.

Vocalist Carol Sloane is a New England and international favorite. In addition to performing and recording with her own trio, Ms. Sloane has performed with the Boston Pops, Clark Terry, and many others and has a very special musical and personal rapport with pianist Bill Charlap.
