MAC-to-School-Cabaret-Scenes-Magazine_212Join us for our second-ever two-day cabaret event! Workshops, classes, seminars, and more, SEPTEMBER 17th and 18th at 244 REHEARSAL STUDIOS, 244 WEST 54th Street, 10th Floor, New York City.

Flat registration fee for MAC members: $50
Non-MAC members may also attend the MAC to School weekend for a total fee of $150, or join MAC for only $50 for a full year membership to take advantage of the deeply discounted MAC member price of only $50 for the entire weekend.

What’s included in your tuition:
– up to 15 hours of classes, seminars, and workshops
– MAC water bottle
– MAC notebook and pen

See below for descriptions of events and choose which ones you’d like to attend. Your $50 registration fee is good for admission to all events. If you can’t make it to some events, that’s okay! Tuition is the same regardless of how many events you attend.

Please choose only one session per time slot. If you change your mind, please get in touch with us as soon as possible so that we can accommodate the change!

CABARET 101: GETTING STARTED

A panel discussion that will focus on getting your cabaret career started—what to do, how to do it, and where will it all go. With Gretchen Reinhagen, Natalie Arneson, Charles Baran, Sidney Myer. Moderated by Bob Diamond

CABARET 201: THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX
Been in the cabaret world for a while and looking to shake up your act? Join us for this panel discussion with artists who’ve presented shows that were out of the ordinary.

VOCAL WORKSHOP WITH ERIC MICHAEL GILLETT
Join multi-award winning performer, director and teacher Eric Michael Gillett for a workshop on singing.

MAKING ARRANGEMENTS
Join established musical directors and arrangers for a panel on putting arrangements together, from top to bottom. You wouldn’t buy a new suit without tailoring it, and sometimes a song needs a bit of adjustment, too!

MASTER CLASS WITH NATALIE DOUGLAS
Called “a true force of nature” and “in a league of her own” by Clive Davis of The Times (UK) in his TWO five-star reviews of two different London appearances, Natalie Douglas is a Nightlife, Backstage Bistro and seven-time MAC Award winner, as well as recipient of the Margaret Whiting Award from the Mabel Mercer Foundation. Natalie’s portrait also hangs on the legendary Birdland Jazz Club Wall of Fame.
Depending on enrollment, singing in master classes is not guaranteed.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

YOGA FOR SINGERS WITH DAWN DEROW
Learn what you can do to better your health with just a mat on your living room floor. How a few basic exercises, stretches, yoga poses and core work will better your body, health and singing voice.

DANCE CLASS WITH SUE MATSUKI
Who knew? Cabaret’s own Sue Matsuki was a dance teacher/choreographer in a past life! Join her for a jazz dance class for ALL body types, ages and health issues.

PUNCHING UP YOUR PATTER WITH NANCY WITTER
Join 20-year veteran, cabaret comedian Nancy Witter, for a fun, supportive, safe space to create funny, clever or meaningful patter to complement your musical act. Students will work on finding their voices within their acts—the one that speaks rather than sings.

TO THEME OR NOT TO THEME: THAT IS THE THEME
A panel discussion focusing on the dilemma of whether to do a theme show, what the theme should be, and how to carry it out. With Stacy Sullivan, Scott Coulter, Jeff Harnar, T. Oliver Reid. Moderated by Kim Grogg

NEW YORK CABARET: THE HEADS OF STATE
The head honchos from the major cabaret organizations in New York—MAC, Bistro Awards, Mabel Mercer Foundation—will meet to discuss the state of cabaret as it is now and where it’s headed. This is sure to be an interesting panel with a lot of different perspectives. With Lennie Watts, Sherry Eaker, KT Sullivan, Roy Sander. Moderated by Frank Dain

MASTER CLASS WITH TONY DESARE
