Jonatahn-Karrant-Cabaret-Scenes-Magazine_212Here’s Cabaret Scenes’ Mary Bogue’s review of Jonathan’s show in August at H.O.M.E.:

Jonathan Karrant was born to do just what he does in front of a microphone. Back in the day, he’d be in the company of Sinatra, Martin and Davis.

Karrant’s style is purely sharkskin-suit classic, so much so that one only needs to close one’s eyes and to hear the smooth essence of Johnny Hartman, the groove of Tony Bennett and the hip takes on standards that Michael Bublé provides. And not one iota is forced.

Singing on stage at an astounding seven years old, and now in his late 20s, Karrant has so much stage cool that when the sound engineer at H.O.M.E. literally fell asleep at the wheel, the audience was in an uproar, but Karrant calmly repeated his opening number “I’m Gonna Love You,” and moved effortlessly and quite aptly into “Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams (and Dream Your Troubles Away).”

Clearly he is at home wherever he goes, but H.O.M.E. was heartless this evening; the same engineer bathed him in all green. An audience member somewhat resolved it, leaving him an island of red light and nowhere to move without looking bilious. Still, he killed with “Having a Good Time” showcasing his perfect phrasing, and his talent to tenderly massage the lyrics in “When October Goes,” where pianist Llew Matthews stretched out and explored the nostalgia of the music.

“Lady in Red,” Karrant’s newest single, showcased his ability to take what was a dance-beat hit and turn it into a romantic ballad, allowing his rich baritone to caress the imagination.

Look for Jonathan’s CD On and On at the usual places. You might want to buy two copies, keeping one to share with someone you truly love.
