Phillip Officer, winner of the NY Nightlife, Backstage Bistro, and MAC Awards, will be appearing in GUYS Sing DOLLS ~ A Feminine Toast with a Twist of Testosterone, at the Cabaret Jazz Club at Las Vegas’s Smith Center for the Performing Arts. The concert, which he is also producing, celebrates 100 years of the American Popular Songbook—specifically, women lyricists and composers.

The “Guys,” along with Officer, are Brent Barrett (Phantom), Benjamin D. Hale (Million Dollar Quartet), Carnell Johnson (Les Misérables), and singer/songwriter Christopher Lash. They’ll be backed by Musical Director John Boswell at the piano, John Wedemeyer on guitar, Steve Flora on bass, and Jess Gopen playing percussion.

You’ll like the dolls they’re toasting: Peggy Lee, Carole King, Dorothy Parker, Anne Caldwell, Nancy Hamilton, Carolyn Leigh, Annie Ross, Marilyn Bergman, Odetta, Civilla Martin, Betty Comden, and Dorothy Fields, as well as Dolly Parton, Cyndi Lauper, Brenda Russell, Carole Bayer Sager, and Adele. Among the songs the concert will feature are the Mabel Mercer standard “Once in a Blue Moon” by Anne Caldwell, Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” Carole King’s “Beautiful,” Peggy Lee’s “It’s a Good Day,” Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” and Betty Comden’s “Some Other Time” (co-written with Adolph Green; music by Leonard Bernstein).

Further uptown, on the Las Vegas Strip, the undead are performing for grateful human audiences in a wonderful bit of camp called Zombie Burlesque. Yes, it’s 1958 and nuclear tests have spawned a race of hungry zombies. A Zombie/Human Peace Accord has been struck, and as long as we keep feeding them (BRAINS!!), they will behave and entertain at swanky nightspots like Club Z.

Zombie-Burlesque-Cabaret-Scenes-MagazineZombie Burlesque plays at the V Theater, in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. Zenoch (Enoch Augustus Scott), the decomposing compere, welcomes the audience and introduces his cast of frisky flesh-eaters. This is followed by act after act of zombie talent, including Miss Lola Gangrene (Lora Kelsey) doing an inventive strip tease with a disembodied hand which removes her clothing for her, Miss Carvin’ Miranda (Talia Marino) doing an aerial silks act, Sophia LaMorte (Sophia Monica) singing and dancing in a graveyard with her deceased beaus, Elizabeth Terror and Deadi Arnaz (April Leopardi and Antenor) dancing a zombie strip tease/pas de deux, Latino zombie hunk Johnny Wife-mauler (Jeffrey DeBarathy) stripping down to a silver codpiece in a “Zombies in Space” number, and undead drag performer Tiny Bubbles (Steve Daley) in a plus-size poodle skirt, supp hose, and ’50s flip hairdo. A big audience favorite is Zombie Mikey (Patrick Leahy), questioning his manhood while Zenoch sings a re-written Steven Sondheim song, which becomes a hilarious ode to homosexuality, complete with rainbow flag and lighting!

Directed and choreographed by Tiger Martina and produced by David Saxe, Zombie Burlesque is not high art! The humor is silly and juvenile, with lots of jokes about body parts. It is, however a ton of fun. The strip tease acts are clever and never vulgar, and the cast, both male and female, are pure eye candy! Whether you’re male, female, straight or gay, there’s something for everyone, so you’re sure to find a zombie that’s…
