David Lucky had a unique ending to the original song he performed at the Gardenia Open Mic hosted by Keri Kelsey. He dropped to one knee and proposed to Maude Maggart, who accepted. The locale was only fitting, as that’s where they met. Maude returns to the Gardenia  6/11-13. Also back for gigs there are Tom Culver 5/14, Sammy Williams 6/19-20 and Annie Reiner 6/27. Julie Wilson’s last visit to L.A. included a stop at the Gardenia Open Mic.

Princess Cruises hosted a gala evening to announce a partnership with Stephen Schwartz, who will be putting together four shipboard shows. The first, Magic to Do was previewed with Stephen at the piano accompanying Liz Callaway, Princess performer Stephanie Hodgdon, Jill Whelan from The Love Boat and Barrett Foa from NCIS: Los Angeles doing songs that will be heard in the show. Magic to Do premieres this fall on the Crown Princess, sailing from Los Angeles.

Nellie McKay is at Largo at the Coronet 5/16 in support of her new CD, My Weekly Reader. Frank Sinatra Jr. brings his Sinatra Sings Sinatra show to Segerstrom Hall at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa 5/2. Ann Hampton Callaway is at the Center’s Samueli Theater 5/7-9. Sutton Foster joins Seth Rudetsky at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica 6/14.

Stacy Sullivan’s On the Air: A Tribute to Marian McPartland is at Catalina Jazz Club 5/12. Returning there are Michele Lee 5/17 and Pia Zadora 5/18. Corky Hale plays for her daughter-in-law Tricia Tahara 6/17. Sarah Spiegel’s career has taken off after her guest spots with Donny Most, so she is leaving the Catalina waitstaff to concentrate on that career.

Laura Dickinson will be featuring songs from her Sinatra salute CD, One for My Baby, at Herb Alpert’s Vibrato 5/20. Frank Stallone is there 5/19 & 6/24. There must be a Sinatra salute epidemic in May as Glee’s Bill A. Jones joins the pack with his Frank, Bobby and Me show at E Spot Lounge in Studio City 5/23. Freda Payne is at Vibrato 6/16. Brenna Whitaker continues her monthly Thursday date at Spaghettini Beverly Hills 5/28. Taran Gray is at Society Cabaret La Jolla 5/16 and Ric Henry is there 6/20. Jonathan Karrant returns to Martinis Above Fourth in San Diego 5/28 and Devyn Rush brings her show I’m Always True to Myselves there 6/4.

Les Traub has been covering the cabaret scene for over twenty years. He is a co-founder and President of Cabaret West and has produced cabaret shows at the Jazz Bakery, Cinegrill, Gardenia, El Portal Theatre, Pasadena Playhouse and at UCLA. He co-produced and wrote a Sammy Cahn tribute show at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills. He is Chairman of the Board of Musical Theatre Guild, where he co- produced Sail Away, High Spirits, Little Mary Sunshine and Street Scene at the Alex Theatre. He has lectured on cabaret in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Connecticut. .
