The Bay Area Cabaret at the Venetian Room welcomes jazz bird Stacey Kent 1/31 and Judy Collins, who has been making cabaret stages her home for a number of years, 2/28 & 3/1.

Feinstein’s at the Nikko kicks off the New Year with Amy & Freddy 1/2 & 3. The Dexler Twins double your pleasure 1/7. Kathy Nakimy stops by 1/9 & 10 and songwriter Vonda Shepard, no stranger to the Bay Area’s cabarets, is there 1/16 & 17. American Idol alum Constantine Maroulis rocks the room 1/23 & 24. Tony Award winner (for Kinky Boots) Billy Porter struts his stuff 1/30 & 2/1. Tom Reardon takes the stage 2/4.

Society Cabaret continues its monthly open mic, Curtain Call, with Bill Cooper and Barry Lloyd 1/2 & 2/6. Cabaret Showcase, with G. Scott Lacy at the piano, is 1/3 & 2/7. Maria Diamond presents tangos in song and story in Maria de Buenos Aires 1/10. It Takes Two: An Evening of Broadway Duets is 1/16. Jazz crooner Mark Johnson presents original songs in January Soul 1/17. Wesla Whitfield, with husband Mike Greensill at the piano, declares We’re in the Money 1/23 & 24. On 2/13 & 14, it’s Lauren Mayer and Scott Grinthal in Yes, Dear—Revisted. The Composer Series, hosted by Paula Heitman and featuring Danielle DeBow, Michael Scott Wells and Jill Gould, pays tribute to Richard Rodgers in Rodgers’ Riches 2/21.

Always interested in the arts, Steve was encouraged to begin producing and, in 1998, staged four, one-man vehicles starring San Francisco's most gifted performers. In 1999, he began the Viva Variety series, a live stage show with a threefold mission to highlight, support, and encourage gay and gay-friendly art in all the performance forms, to entertain and document the shows, and to contribute to the community by donating proceeds to local non-profits. The shows utilized the old variety show style popularized by his childhood idol Ed Sullivan. He’s produced over 150 successful shows, including parodies of Bette Davis’s gothic melodramedy Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte and Joan Crawford’s very awful Trog. He joined Cabaret Scenes 2007 and enjoys the writing and relationships he’s built with very talented performers.
