Andrea Marcovicci celebrates Valentine’s Day at Tom Rolla’s Gardenia 2/13 & 14. Annie Reiner returns there 1/17. Catalina Jazz Club presents Sally Kellerman 1/14, Mandy Gonzalez 1/27 & 28 and Maggy Simon 2/10 & 11. Lorraina Marro has a CD release party at the club 2/1. Bella Porter, a finalist in the Music Center Spotlight Awards, debuts at Herb Alpert’s Vibrato 1/4. Michael Sterling’s annual LA’s Next Great Stage Star competition plays out at Sterling’s Upstairs at the Federal for ten weeks of Sundays beginning in January.

Spaghettini Beverly Hills opened the Dave Koz Lounge in December with Spencer Day and Jim Caruso’s Cast Party among the first attractions. Matt Goss is there 1/15 & 2/19.

Betty Buckley takes the stage at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills 1/24 performing songs from her new album Ghostlight. Patti LuPone brings her show, Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda…Played That Part to the Wallis 2/12 & 13. Last season’s run of Love, Noël: The Letters and Songs of Noël Coward sold out at the venue, so it was brought back for another run this season with Harry Groener and Sharon Lawrence taking over the starring roles. Tommy Tune heads to Malibu to perform his autobiographical show Taps, Tunes & Tall Tales at the Smothers Theatre at Pepperdine University 1/17. Brian Stokes Mitchell offers a Valentine’s Songbook to Broadway lovers at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica 2/14 & 15. Carole J. Bufford is at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach with Body and Soul 1/21 & 22. Dawn Upshaw joins with the Pacific Symphony at Segerstrom Concert Hall at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa For the Love of Bernstein 1/29-31. At the Center’s Samueli Theater, Kurt Elling Swings Sinatra 2/27 & 28.

Anne Steele makes her San Diego debut at Martinis Above Fourth 1/8. Jake Simpson returns there 2/5 and Miss Coco Peru is also returning 2/25 & 26.

Les Traub

Les Traub has been covering the cabaret scene for over twenty years. He is a co-founder and President of Cabaret West and has produced cabaret shows at the Jazz Bakery, Cinegrill, Gardenia, El Portal Theatre, Pasadena Playhouse and at UCLA. He co-produced and wrote a Sammy Cahn tribute show at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills. He is Chairman of the Board of Musical Theatre Guild, where he co- produced Sail Away, High Spirits, Little Mary Sunshine and Street Scene at the Alex Theatre. He has lectured on cabaret in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Connecticut. .
