BOSTON
The spring in Boston and in Boston’s cabaret scene both get off to a slow burn, as Tuck & Patti appear at Scullers Jazz Club 5/23. Jazz chanteuse Lauren Kinhan appears at the club 5/28, followed by pop, soul and R&B singer/songwriter Bobby Caldwell.

Brian De Lorenzo returns to the Metropolitan Room in NYC 5/4 with Sinatra, Tony, and Me: Songs of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, wrapping up his two-city run, having performed it at the Metropolitan Room 4/27 and at Scullers in Boston 3/26.

The Boston Association of Cabaret Artists (BACA) has begun a series of monthly performance showcases, featuring emerging performers in the BACA Performance Showcases, and established cabaret performers in the BACA Invitation Performance Showcases, all held at the Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham. Veteran solo performers Bobbi Carey and Will McMillan, who celebrated their 10th year as a performing duo last fall, led off the Invitation Performance Showcase in March, with Doug Hammer on piano, and special international guest performer Miriam Waks. The April Performance Showcase featured Mary Crowe, Thomas Casey, Heather Thomas and Stephen Smith, with Tom LaMark on piano. On 5/18, the Performance Showcases continue with Phil Kassel, Caitlin Fahey, Sheryl Altman, Bob DiCicco and David Diamond, with Bill Duffy on piano. On 6/22, Duffy will also accompany for the Invitation Performance Showcase will feature jazzer David Thorne Scott and the versatile Lynda D’Amour, who is as comfortable with a ballad, story song, or anthem as she is with a swing tune, comic novelty song, or R&B bump and grind number.

John O’Neil continues his First Monday series at the Napoleon Room at Club Café with Emily Shamieh 5/5 and David Delena 6/2.

The Boston Pops is planning to stir things up big time opening their season with the return of Tony Award winner (for Jerome Robbins’ Broadway) Jason Alexander 5/7,
followed by another Tony winner, Billy Porter, 5/20 & 21, direct from Broadway’s Kinky Boots, where he is slaying them in the aisles. The Pops turns up the heat even higher in June with Tony winner Jennifer Holliday (Dreamgirls) joining them 6/3 & 4.
